Sparks flew as the two swords missed their mark and hit the stone wall. Link got to his feet and swung the chain whip.

Glass leapt in, spinning through the air, dual swords swishing as he brought them down, narrowly missing Link’s neck as the assassin shifted to the left. The chain whip flashed out, wrapping around a sword hilt and Glass’s hand, biting deep as a smaller blade dug into the top of his hand, protruding from the bottom. With Link’s savage jerk, blood sprayed to the floor as the sword dropped, clanging on the ground.

Screams of anger and pain filled the room, Glass’s eyes brimming red with fury. Attacking with his left hand, he was a little slower, and much more vulnerable, but just as dangerous. Link dodged the blows as he parried left and right, shouting, ‘I don’t want to kill you!’

Glass kept coming, swinging and stabbing as fast as he could. ‘Too bad. I’ll kill you, you traitor! The guild will hunt you to the ends of the earth!’

Parrying another blow, Link said, ‘What you’re doing is wrong, and you know this. We are not murderers. We kill for the guild, never for personal reasons.’

‘Oh, grow up, Link! The guild sends us to kill for their personal gain all the time! How is that any different?’ A sudden thrust from Glass sliced deep into Link’s arm.

Link fell back against the wall, clutching his arm, then saw Glass jump across the torture table, bringing his sword down hard. Scraping past Link’s face, the blade cut into the wall as he moved just in time to avoid the death blow. He spun on his heels and grabbed Glass at the back of the neck. Using the assassin’s momentum against him, he slammed his head viciously against the wall, and Glass sagged to the ground without a sound.
